“By following nature
we manage to get the best
from our vineyards”
The Montepulciano hill is located at 605 meters, between the Valdichiana and the Val D’Orcia, one of the most evocative panoramas of Tuscany. The peculiarity of this hill is the variety of climates and soils, which allow us to produce a high quality wine.
Our vineyards are located under the Temple of S. Biagio in a real natural amphitheater, at a height of 450 meters above the sea surface and enjoy one of the most suitable exposures for wine production, South – West.
We currently have 12 productive hectares, divided into 3 different plots and planted at different times, all located on a completely clayey soil.
In the part below the Cellar we find our little jewel, the 3-hectare vineyard planted in ’58 by grandfather Damo which hosts a very varied range of vines, including: Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo, Colorino and some Barbera plants. There are also 4 varieties of white grapes, some of which are almost extinct such as Canaiolo Bianco as well as Malvasia Bianca Toscana, Trebbiano Toscano and Pulcinculo. The vine training system is mainly spurred cordon and the roots reach a depth of 3 meters.
Adjacent to the historic vineyard are the 7 hectares planted by the family in the early 2000s, grown entirely with spurred cordon. In the upper part we can find mainly Sangiovese, from which our Vino Nobile comes to life. While in the lower part, given the presence of a small river and greater humidity, Merlot was planted.
On the opposite side, overlooking Montepulciano, two hectares of vineyards were planted between 2015 and 2018, entirely trained with Guyot. About a third of these were planted with white grapes, cloned from our 60-year-old vineyard, in order to carry on our old vines of Canaiolo Bianco, Malvasia Toscana and Pulcinculo.
The remaining part was dedicated to the planting of Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero and Colorino, a desire by the producer to experiment in order to understand the evolution of these varieties with a completely opposite exposure compared to the vineyards planted in previous years.
